What Happened When One Woman Tried J.Lo's Intense 1000 Rep Workout

Two hours later...

We all know how mega fit J.Lo is. From her abs routine to the healthy habits she loves (incl. getting after her workouts every damn day, of course) the 51-year-old pop star is pretty much at the peak of her fitness game.

But what would happen if a mere mortal tried one of Lopez' workouts – would they be able to keep up with her challenging high-rep workout? One woman set off to try out.

YouTuber and fitness coach Lucy Davis set off to see if she could hack the 1000 rep workout J.Lo crushes on the reg. The result? Sweat. A lot of it.

Getting going

Circuit one is core-focused and kicks off with 50 hanging ab raises, 50 rope crunches and 50 incline sit-ups – and that's just the first set. Set two, you knock 15 reps off each one and repeat and for set three, you knock off another ten.

'I don't really train abs so it's going to be really hard for me, it's going to be uncomfortable,' says Davis before entering the gym. 'I might cry, I'm not 100% sure.'

'She's joking with that,' says Davis after doing twenty reps of the first set of hanging ab raises before jumping back on to complete the exercise. It's clear why she's baffled – hanging ab raises are hard. And Lopez is just getting going.

Coming unstuck

Moving quickly on to rope crunches (something Davis says is a big no-no due to your spine flexing in the wrong way), Davis says repeatedly how much the move hurts her back. Then it's time for weighted hanging raises with a 20kg plate. Jeez.

'I feel she's probably stronger than me core wise because I don't really train abs and she obviously does,' Davis says clambering onto the bench and struggling through the first 10 reps. Switching plates, Davis powers through the rest of the reps with a 10kg plate. 'I'm not used to it so I'm just dead slow. She's hard as nails.'

'This session is going to end up being two hours, she clearly has more time to spend in the gym than I do.'

Using *a lot* of different equipment

One thing Davis notes is how much moving around the gym she has to do to get all the exercises in. Something she figures Lopez doesn't have to contend with. 'She definitely has her own amazing gym where all the equipment is in one area – like this gym is so busy.'

Finishing up two hours later, Davis' verdict is that a two hours workout isn't necessary for people who aren't pro athletes or people like Lopez who have the time/the want. Preach it.

Something Davis says that we agree with 100%: 'She's actually amazing.' True story.
